Nailtiques review : Life After Acrylics

Hiya Loves,

As some of you may already know I had a slight obsession with having Acrylic nails, I even started to do my own Acrylics but I had a tendency of pulling them off rather than soaking them in acetone which resulted in me having very thin peeling and cracked nails. I started watching Nicole from Young Wild And Polished and her stunning nails inspired me to look after my own so I no longer need to use acrylics.

These are the products I have used to get my nails back in good condition, my nails still aren't where I want the to be they still have a way to go but they have improved a helluva lot since last having acrylics several months ago. I thought I would share with you guys how I have been caring for my nails to make them healthy again.

The first thing I would do is make sure I have clean nails, I then file them to the shape that I want I personally prefer square nails. *Tip* Make sure you only file in one direction not back and fourth, as filing back and fourth will snag your nails making them peel and crack meaning you will go back to square one with your nails strength etc. I then use a cuticle remover to push back my cuticles, My favourite is Sally Hansens Instant Cuticle Remover as I find it to be the best one I have tried. *Tip* Never cut your cuticles as they will come back harder, tougher and will look awful.

Next and for me the most important step is this product from he gods! It is Nailtiques Formula 2. It is a nail protein which repairs broken, peeling, cracked and weak nails. This products is rather pricey but it is so so worth it. I apply a generous layer to my nails everyday for a week it is recommended you don't use any other polish whilst using this product as it allows your nails to breathe to get the best possible results. Since using this product my nails have become much stronger and healthy, as I have said my nails still aren't to a stage I'm happy with but this product is getting them there rather quickly!

Lastly once the polish has dried I like to apply a good hand cream, my favourite is Soap & Glorys Hand Food. What I like most about his product is it moisturises my hands very well without leaving them feeling greasy as the product soaks in to the skin so well! The last step is cuticle oil, I apply a good amount of cuticle oil on to my cuticles and rub it in to my fingers for about 15 seconds each finger, my favourite being OPI Cuticle Replenishing Oil. I like to follow these last two steps several times a day as dry cuticles are damaging and look awful so keeping them moisturised is essential in having healthy nails.

Do you have any tips you like to follow to get healthy nails? comment below

  1. Ah wish I could break my acrylic habit, I can't help it. My nails have always been so weak even before I wore them. Sally Hansen products are amazing though. I haven't heard of Nailtiques before xx

    1. I found it so hard to break my acrylic addiction! I have used the Sally Hansen hard as nails polish before. I hadn't heard of them either until I wanted some YouTube videos on how to revive acrylic damaged nails,I haven't looked back since haha -xo

  2. I really, really recommend taking Zinc and Biotin supplements! Sure, they may make your hair and nails grow faster, but they also grow stronger. I take the 50mg Zinc supplement after I've had a meal, because I've heard that taking it on an empty stomach may upset it or give you the runs. I've only ever had acrylics done once, and I hated them. The nail technician didn't apply them properly, and they filed my nails so much they were too thin and brittle :( Took me months to grow them back out and I'll never get them done again.

    1. Oh I never thought about taking supplements for my nails before! I'll definitely give them ago! Thanks for the tip lovely. That's a shame about them doing such a rubbish job! I really loved having acrylics but I just got sick of them! -xo
