5 Things I Have Learned During 3 Months Of Motherhood

Hello Lovelies!

It has been a hot minute since I have posted on the blog, I have been neglecting this space for quite some time now although I have very good reason! For those of you who follow me on Instagram you will know that I was graced by the arrival of my son Jackson 16/04/19. These past 3 months have been a whirlwind of emotions thankfully most of them good.

1: Sleep Should Never Be Taken For Granted
One of the first things you are told as an expectant mother is 'you'll never sleep again' now although sleep has become more of a luxury in the past 3 months it isn't as bad as you think. I was induced with Jackson 3 weeks early as he was small. Him being small meant that I had to promt feeds every 3 hours around the clock as he wouldn't cry. Fast forward a couple weeks and he learned to cry when he needed something meaning I could FINALLY switch off those impending alarms of doom. I learned to sleep whilst my baby slept. Having a couple of short naps with Jackson during the day made the night feeds slightly more bearable.

2: People Will Always Give You Unwanted Advice
This has got to me one of the main things that bothers me as a new mum. I have had countless people offer me advice I haven't asked for just because I am a new mum. I have had older and more 'experienced' mums even give me ill informed advice that is not only outdated but also dangerous. Although the advice is coming from a good place it's just not helpful. Forcing advice on a new mum who did not ask for it is actually very disheartening. It makes you feel incapable of caring for your baby. Thankfully I quickly learned to smile politely and ignore. Im doing okay and I'll ask for advice if it's needed.

3: Don't Be Scared To Venture Out
This is something I made sure to follow. With my Partner being in the US Airforce, he works a lot and isn't always at home during daylight hours. I decided to not let the worry of venturing out on my own with a newborn stop me. The day after getting home from the hospital Jackson and I ventured out to the shop although we were only 5 minutes from home it felt like a small, new mummy victory. Since then I have not let being a new mum scare me from going out, to the shops or visiting friends and family.

4: Make Sure You Allow Time For Yourself
It is easy to become so stuck in the baby bubble you forget about your own needs. I have made a point to ensure I have some quality me time. Yes I am a mum now however that is not all that I am. So if that means I play some white noise to keep the baby content for another hour to allow me to paint my nails or wash my hair I will do so, and not feel guilty!

5: Mum Groups On Facebook Can Be A Godsend
I am a part of a couple mummy groups on Facebook which have helped me no end with worries I have as  new mum. There are some lovely ladies who offer judgement free advice. BUT be warned, It can get a little heated. There will always be a select few who will jump down your throat to make you feel awful about your parenting methods, I have learned to ignore those comments since I know I am doing a good job. I am also part of a Mummy Whatsapp group created by the lovely Hollie Evelyn #thatmummytribe every single one of those mummas are incredible, they are some of the loveliest ladies I've chatted with and to be honest some days I don't know what I'd do without them...Thanks Mummas!

BONUS: Soak up every inch of your perfect little humans, everyday because they really do grow too fast!

I could ramble on all day about the things I have learned In the 3 short months I have been a mum but I wont bore you with them all! I am so excited to share my journey into motherhood with you all. Babies don't come with instructions and I learn something new each day. I want to keep things as real and raw as possible from first smiles to reoccurring poo explosions!
